Why Buy Used From a New Car Dealer?
A well maintained, pre-owned vehicle represents excellent value to a consumer. Used cars have traditionally been an important part of any new car dealer?s business. In fact, new car dealers sell approximately 50% of the pre-owned vehicles sold in Ontario (private sales contribute 30% and used car dealers the remaining 20%.)
The new car dealer?s dominance of the used car market can be attributed to the following factors.
Many franchised dealers offer certified used vehicles that must meet a series of standards established by their manufacturer to ensure the quality of the vehicles being sold. Be aware that, government-set certification standards represent minimum levels. New car dealers ?recondition? their used vehicles above and beyond these levels, using manufacturer approved replacement parts.
Dealerships select used vehicles from trade-ins, or they purchase them directly from the manufacturer. New car dealer?s pre-owned vehicles must meet their Used Car Department?s strict quality criteria.
This criteria ensures that the vehicle meets your expectations. Vehicles that do not meet these standards are sold to wholesalers or disposed of through general auctions.
Most new car dealers have a healthy inventory of returned leased vehicles- those that were leased only 2 to 4 years ago. Most of these vehicles have had one lessee, have low kilometers and have been serviced by the new car dealer. Many still have factory warranty remaining. In addition, only new car dealers can offer manufacturer used vehicle warranties, which provide peace of mind to consumers.
Used vehicles, especially late models, are a bargain today. Why? Because manufacturer incentives on new vehicles have an impact on used vehicle demand. Traditionally, prices on these late model vehicles will decrease when new vehicle incentives are offered.
Many new car dealers offer factory backed, supported lease and finance programs with low interest rates on selected used vehicles.
Whether you purchase a new or used vehicle, from a new car dealership, you have access to that dealership?s experienced, factory-trained technicians and state-of-the-art equipment for repairs. Our sales consultants, service staff and technicians have complete knowledge of their product. New car dealerships stand behind their product.
Quite often, new car dealers know the previous owner of your recently purchased used car, as well as the vehicles repair history.
All dealers that are members of the Toronto Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) adhere to rigorous standards including clear-language contracts with full disclosure of all the facts. Most new car dealers are well established in the community. Many have been in business for decades. Generations of local families have referred sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters to these dealerships out of loyalty and satisfaction.
New car dealers have a great deal invested in their businesses ? reputation and commitment to service. To earn a consumer?s confidence, loyalty, and repeat business, we must consistently offer a high level of professionalism and service in the sale of all our vehicles.
The next time that you, or someone you know, is in the market for a new or quality pre-owned vehicle, check out the brand new section in every Thursday?s edition of the Toronto Star?.TADA Auto Zone.
