The New Auto Zone
In September 2003, the Toronto Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) launched an exciting new advertising section in the Toronto Star - Auto Zone. TADA recognized the need for a weekly, informative advertising section for consumers who are interested in purchasing, quality pre-owned vehicles from New-Car Dealers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Auto Zone is published every Friday across the GTA. It features listings of pre-owned vehicles and new car display adds exclusively from New-Car Dealers. Auto Zone was recently revamped to make it even more informative and to include a greater selection of pre-owned vehicles.
The ?new? AutoZone is a section that takes a fresh, new approach. Each issue of AutoZone will bring features and topics related to vehicles and vehicle ownership. Other stories will focus on dealer innovation, marketing successes and vehicle reviews. We will keep you informed about your local New-Car Dealers? products and services. Together with regular editorial contributions, along with consumer articles about government regulations, and auto industry trends.
One of the key benefits of Auto Zone is the ?exclusivity? of the vehicles listed for sale. Auto Zone advertises hundreds of premium, certified vehicles. These vehicles are offered only from New-Car Dealers in the GTA. An additional 6,000 pre-owned vehicles can be viewed on-line at www.tada.ca/used & www.thestar.com/tada. The site is updated daily and is easy to navigate.
In a previous article, I informed you about the pitfalls of purchasing a vehicle from a curbsider. These individuals are not licensed or registered with the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC). Studies have shown that curbsiders place approximately 1 in 4 of the private sale vehicle ads in Ontario.
Many curbsiders disappear a few weeks, or even a few days after a sale has been made. A curbsider operates illegally without paying taxes, without employing licensed persons or establishing permanent premises. It is important to note that curbsiders? vehicles most often come from collision centers, impact auctions (auctions of damaged vehicles) or other provinces and may even be stolen.
I have also addressed (in a prior article), the pros and cons of purchasing a vehicle privately. Even though consumers may feel that they are getting a good deal, there are some aspects that they should be aware of. Always ensure that you review the Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP) for that vehicle before making your decision to purchase. When selling a vehicle privately in Ontario this package must be made available to the buyer prior to transferring the vehicle registration. This package supplies you with the vehicle history, lien registration and ownership details. Remember, if you already own a vehicle, a private seller cannot accept your trade-in for resale. Therefore, you have the added responsibility of disposing of your current vehicle.
When it comes to selling pre-owned vehicles, only New-Car Dealers, can offer manufacturer used vehicle warranties, which provide added peace of mind to consumers.
Many franchise dealers offer certified pre-owned vehicles that have met a series of standards established by the manufacturer to ensure the quality of the vehicles being sold. Be aware that Government set certification standards represent minimum levels. New-Car Dealers ?recondition? their pre-owned vehicles above and beyond these levels.
Dealerships select pre-owned vehicles from trade-ins, and also purchase them directly from the manufacturer. Most New-Car Dealers have a large inventory of returned leased vehicles ? those that were leased only 2-4 years ago. Most of these vehicles have had one lessee, have low kilometers and have been serviced by the New-Car Dealership. New-Car Dealers pre-owned vehicles must meet their dealerships strict quality criteria.
Auto Zone and our TADA website (www.tada.ca) provide a stellar line-up of quality pre-owned compact and mid-size sedans, minivans, sport utility vehicles, sport coupes and luxury vehicles to suit every lifestyle and budget.
