The New Car Dealers of Ontario announce a $1M gift to help establish the world’s first Concussion Research Centre

The Trillium Automobile Dealers (TADA), which represents the new car dealers of Ontario, is announcing its $1 million dollar gift to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital to help establish one of the world’s first concussion research centres, focused on kids, as part of its ongoing commitment to support the communities its dealer members serve Ontario-wide.

Holland Bloorview serves approximately 7,000 children from all across Ontario each year, with about 600 inpatient admissions and 58,000 outpatient visits. Holland Bloorview is a world-class teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. It trains future health-care specialists in the field of childhood disability. The Bloorview Research Institute is located onsite, allowing them to integrate cutting-edge research and teaching with frontline care to improve children’s quality of life.

“The Trillium Automobile Dealers Foundation (TADF) is proud to extend its long standing commitment to the communities its members serve throughout the province of Ontario, with this landmark gift to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital -- a remarkable hospital with an established history of helping kids and their families through clinical care, information and advanced research”, says Todd Bourgon, Executive Director of the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association, “On behalf of the New Car Dealers of Ontario, we are very excited to play an integral role in the establishment of the Holland Bloorview Concussion Research Centre."

In the short term, this gift will help to launch a concussion centre providing support to kids and youth who have suffered a concussion. Another priority will be to train more therapists and other health care professionals to conduct assessments and provide appropriate treatment. It will also help deliver quality information to hundreds of thousands of parents, coaches, kids, doctors and others involved in kids’ sports as quickly as possible. In the long-term, this gift will help to transform the way concussions are managed locally, nationally and internationally.

“We are thrilled Trillium Automobile Dealers Association has stepped up, in a big way, to be the first community partner to help us tackle kids concussion,” said Tracey Bailey, President and CEO, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation. “We are grateful for their $1-million gift, and excited to partner with this truly exceptional group of new car dealers, doing such great things in local communities across Ontario.”
