Impact on the Ontario Economy
The Trillium Automobile Dealers Association represents the franchised new car dealer industry (“the Industry”) in Ontario. The Industry, consisting of over 1110 individual dealerships, makes significant contribution to the Ontario economy, generating over 53,000 direct jobs and $37.1 billion in retail sales annually, accounting for 20% of total retail sales in the province.
TADA members represent 960 dealerships, or 86% of all Ontario dealers. Its members directly employ over 45,000 people and sold over 780,000 used cars in 2015.1 In 2016, Statistics Canada reported Ontario new motor vehicles sales of 821,762.
PwC was retained by TADA to conduct an analysis of the economic contribution to the Ontario economy of its members’ operations in the province. Specifically, our study assesses the economic impact of the TADA member’s ongoing operations in the province as well as wider economic and environmental benefits associated with the provision of car dealership services such as sales of used cars and repair and maintenance services.
